John Griffin was a member of the RCAF and a renowned aviation researcher, historian and author.
In 1991, John A. Griffin was recognized jointly by the Canadian Aviation Historical Society's Ottawa Chapter, the Directorate of History and Heritage, Department of National Defence, and the Canada Aviation Museum for his "distinguished contributions to the advancement of Canadian aviation history". For more than 60 years, Mr. Griffin collected everything to do with the history of military aviation in Canada.
Located at 1 Canadian Air Division/NORAD Region Headquarters in Winnipeg, Manitoba, his donated collection resides in the Directorate of Air Force Heritage and was subsequently officially named the "John Griffin Library" in his honour by then Commander MGen Marcel Duval at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the 29th of August 2008.
