Expansion Project
The Cold War Exhibit (CWE) Expansion Project, is a significant enhancement to Alberta’s cultural infrastructure by expanding an established and highly attended public exhibit. The project addresses critical preservation and display for three recently acquired Cold War-era Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) aircraft—the CT-133 Silver Star, CF-100 Canuck, and CF-101 Voodoo—as well as related NATO and NORAD defense artifacts.
The current CWE attracts more than 50,000 visitors annually, including over 30,000 students and has outgrown its physical capacity.
The CWE project will add over 11,000 sq ft of new climate-controlled exhibit space designed to educate and inspire our youth for future careers in DND and the Canadian aerospace and defence industries. It will significantly improve public engagement through interactive, multimedia, and virtual reality exhibits, while also enhancing archival and research capacity. The project is expected to generate increased tourism, educational outreach, and community involvement, including expanded programming for veterans, youth, and schools.
